The Big Tree

Our Record-Worthy Maple

Tucked quietly among the fields at Henny Pen Acres stands a truly special maple tree—one that has earned recognition in Michigan's Big Tree Hunt. With its towering presence and wide-reaching canopy, this remarkable tree has become a symbol of strength, resilience, and the passage of time.

Long before Henny Pen Acres became what it is today, this maple was already here—weathering seasons, standing tall through storms, and growing stronger year after year. Today, it serves as a reminder of deep roots and enduring beauty, much like the story behind our farm.

We're proud to share this piece of living history with everyone who visits—a tree that not only holds a place in Michigan's records, but also in our hearts.

A Mighty Blessed Tree

By Margaret McArthur – August 28, 2021

You are a tree of beauty, God's great creation.
With your mighty, outstretched branches, you are a beautiful sight to see.

So I take this moment in history to honor all your years of life—
To wonder at all the things you have witnessed and endured through time.

You were here in 1721,
Long before Michigan became the 26th state in 1837.

You stood as history unfolded—
In 1842, when copper mining began at Keweenaw Point,
And in 1844, when iron ore was discovered in the Upper Peninsula of Marquette.

You lived through moments that shaped this land—
In 1846, when capital punishment was abolished in Michigan,
And in 1910, when the first primary elections were held.

So many things have occurred—
Some good, some bad, some great, some sad.

And now, we take this special moment to love and bless you.
We pray you continue to share your beauty for many years to come,
For all to see, to feel, and to cherish.

God bless and keep you—
We love you, old mighty tree.
